Top-seed Pipers survive quarter-final scare to advance

Four of the top five seeds are still alive in the hunt for the BC School Sports 4A Girls Basketball Provincial Tournament.

The semi-final round will see the Argyle Pipers against the Semiahmoo Thunderbirds followed by the Riverside Rapids and the M.E.I. Eagles.

Riverside Rapids 80 G.W. Graham Grizzlies 46

The Riverside Rapids (Port Coquitlam) controlled the game from the opening tip, rolling to an 80-46 win over Chilliwack’s G.W. Graham Grizzlies. Ari Brown poured in 22 points to lead the way, with Henna Virk adding 16 in support. Katie Schmitke topped the Grizzlies with 13 points.

M.E.I. Eagles 73 Charles Best Blue Devils 66

Ella Tatlock scored 20 points and Julianna Reimer added 14 as Abbotsford’s M.E.I. Eagles earned a 73-66 victory over Coquitlam’s Charles Best Blue Devils. After falling behind briefly in the opening minutes, the Eagles controlled the tempo for much of the game, building a steady lead before the Blue Devils rallied to within five late, only to run out of time. Charles Best had four players in double figures, paced by 18 points from Mahal Barraso and 16 from Elizabeth Fast.

Argyle Pipers 73 Okanagan Mission Huskies 71

In the day’s most thrilling contest, the Argyle Pipers narrowly edged the Okanagan Mission Huskies 73-71. Tied at 68 late in the fourth, the top-seeded Pipers pulled away in the final moments behind a balanced scoring effort. Sophie Nicholson led Argyle with 16 points, Sadie Danks added 15, and both Cassidy Nugent and Isabella Miljkovic chipped in 14. Shae Sandhu starred for the Huskies with a game-high of 35 points.

Semiahmoo Thunderbirds 72 Johnston Heights Eagles 55

In a Surrey showdown, the Semiahmoo Thunderbirds claimed a 72-55 victory over the Johnston Heights Eagles. Jaida Claypool led the way for the Thunderbirds with a spectacular 36-point performance, while Puneet Deol scored 29 for the Eagles before fouling out in the fourth quarter.
