Wolves stun Knights, take down top seed in championship final

3A WINDSOR

A balanced scoring attack and a huge rebounding advantage helped the Windsor Wolves make school history.

The North Vancouver school had five players in double figures, plus a 55-35 advantage on the boards as the No. 2 seed upset the top-ranked St. Thomas More Collegiate Knights 66-58 in the BC School Sports 3A Boys Basketball Provincial Tournament championship game at Langley Events Centre on Saturday.

The Knights scored eight of the first 10 points, but once the Wolves went ahead late in the opening quarter, Windsor never trailed again, leading for 33:18 of the 40 minute contest.

Oscar Rouillard led the Wolves with 18 points, a well as seven rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots to earn the Championship Player of the Game. Perrin Taylor – who would win the Most Valuable Player Award following his 13-point, 11-rebound outing with Emmet Ward adding 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Zeru Abera was game’s top scorer with 24 points and nine boards while Jacob Oreta had nine points and a team-best 12 rebounds.

The third-place game was an all-Island affair as Courtenay’s Mark R. Isfeld Ice won 76-71 over Nanaimo’s Wellington Wildcats.
