No. 22 Sullivan Heights through to final 8

Following two games each for all 32 teams, eight teams remain in the hunt for a championship title.

All four days of the Junior Boys Basketball Invitational Tournament are being played at Langley Events Centre.

The quarter-final round features seven of the top eight seeds with the No. 22 seed Sullivan Heights Stars (Surrey) the lone underdog to advance on the championship side of the draw.

The Stars will face the third-seed Terry Fox Ravens (Port Coquitlam) with the other matchup on that side the No. 2 St. Patrick Celtics (Vancouver) and the No. 7 New Westminster Hyacks.

The other side of the draw pits the top-seed Argyle Pipers (North Vancouver) against the No. 8 Burnaby South Rebels while the No. 4 Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers (Surrey) draw the No. 5 Vancouver College Fighting Irish.

The first two games tip off at 11:30am on Sunday (Feb. 23) while the latter two begin at 1:00pm.

Opening Day Results

The Irish won 63-44 over the Abbotsford Traditional Titans before edging the Salish Wolves 54-48, while their next opponent – Lord Tweedsmuir – won 70-44 against Sir Charles Tupper and 73-45 over the Brookswood Bobcats.

New Westminster won 82-32 over the Shas Ti Kelly Road Grizzlies and 63-46 versus the Kelowna Owls while the Celtics held their first two opponents to a combined 54 points, winning 81-23 over the Duchess Park Condors and 75-31 against the Walnut Grove Gators, setting up a quarter-final clash between the Hyacks and the Celtics.

Burnaby South advanced with a 56-26 win over Brentwood College followed by an 82-49 victory against the R.E. Mountain Eagles. Up next for the Rebels is a battle against Argyle as the North Vancouver school averaged more than 80 points in their first two games, winning 82-29 over the Similkameen Sparks and 89-74 against the Sir Winston Churchill Bulldogs 89-74.

And the fourth quarter-final has Terry Fox against Sullivan Heights. The Ravens were 69-39 winners over the South Delta Sun Devils before edging the Fleetwood Park Dragons 55-49. Sullivan Heights pulled off an upset in the opening round, defeating the No. 11 Sardis Falcons 63-57 and following that up with a 56-42 win over the Lambrick Park Lions.
