Eagles aim to deny Unity Christian repeat bid

The defending champion Unity Christian Flames will go for the repeat – and fourth title in the last five BC School Sports 1A Boys Basketball Tournaments when they take on the top seed, St. John’s School Eagles. Game time will be 12:30 p.m. at Langley Events Centre.

In a rematch of the 2024 championship game, the Flames overcame a 17-point first-half deficit, rallying to beat the Haida Gwaii Breakers 93-83. Matthias Hulka scored 36 points, along with seven rebounds, five assists and five steals for the Flames. That included going 5-for-14 from the 3-point line.

Aaron Flokstra added 18 with Rio Kingsma and Caleb Friesen each chipping in 15 for the Flames.

Calvin Collison led Haida Gwaii with 24 points and he was one of five to reach double digits, alongside Logan Jones (18 points), Loay Almahamid (15), Naden Brown-Sjolund (15) and Calvin Collison (12).

Facing the Southpointe Academy Titans from Delta, Vancouver’s St. John’s School Eagles led wire-to-wire to earn themselves a first-ever appearance in the championship final.

 

Viv Anderson-Francois was unstoppable for the Eagles, delivering a 36-point, 11-rebound performance for his team. Devin Khunkhun was the top scorer for the Titans with 28 points.
