Buoyed by a dominant second half from point guard Judah Ashbee, Surrey’s Pacific Academy captured their first BC School Sports 2A Boys Basketball Provincial Championship title.
Ashbee scored 22 of his 34 points after halftime as the Breakers pulled away from the Summerland Rockets 80-69 in the championship game on Saturday afternoon at Langley Events Centre.
Ashbee was later named Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.
Pacific Academy was the top seed while Summerland was No. 2, but the Rockets did enter the game with a perfect 32-0 record on the season. Both teams were looking for a first title in school history, but the Breakers pulled away in the fourth quarter as they extended their lead from four to the 11-point final margin of victory.
Earl Akene was also instrumental in the fourth quarter for Pacific Academy, scoring eight of his 21 points in the period. He also had 11 rebounds for the game.
Jack Campbell led Summerland with 20 points with Desmond and Mateo Duchek adding 18 and 14 points, respectively.
The third-place game saw the Collingwood Cavaliers outlast the Westsyde Whundas 86-80.
