Seahawks, Titans set to clash in Junior Girls Championship final

JG_SF_SEAQUAM_14-2It will be the Seaquam Seahawks and South Kamloops Titans battling for the 2022 Junior Girls Basketball Provincial Invitational Tournament title.

The two teams tip off at Centre Court at Langley Events Centre on Saturday at 1:00pm to wrap up the four-day, 24-team tournament.

The Titans entered as the number four seed, and they were 66-58 winners over the No. 8 Little Flower Academy Angels (Vancouver).  South Kamloops was up 43-19 at the half before the Angels attempted to make up the 24-point deficit over the game’s final 16 minutes. Despite a 39-23 advantage over the last two quarters, the deficit ultimately proved to be too much for LFA.

Kiana Kaczur led the Titans with 22 points while Lucy Marchese nailed five triples as part of a 19-point effort. Rylie Tsui led LFA with 15 points while Clara Juca and Maria Drazenovic each scored 14.

Their opponent in the championship final is the No. 2 seed Seaquam Seahawks of Delta, who were 52-48 winners over the No. 6 Yale Lions (Abbotsford).

Down two points at the half, the Seahawks pulled ahead to close the third quarter and then stretched their lead to as many as nine points before winning by four.

Syra Toor scored 13 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter, including hitting three huge three-pointers over the final eight minutes. Sydney Roufosse added a dozen and Priya Toor had 10. Yale’s Ava Heppner led all scorers with 22 points, 18 of which came from beyond the arc. JG_SF_SEAQUAM_14
