Roadrunners upset Eagles in quarter-final clash

Four of the top five seeds are left standing following the quarter-final round of the BC School Sports 3A Girls Basketball Provincial Championships at Langley Events Centre.

The No. 1 seed Brookswood Bobcats will face the No. 5 Reynolds Roadrunners in one semi-final while the second-seed St. Michaels University School Blue Jags are up against the No. 3 South Kamloops Titans.

#5 Reynolds Roadrunners 69 #4 M.E.I. Eagles 58

The Reynolds Roadrunners shook of a slow start – they trailed 16-8 after a period – to upset the M.E.I. Eagles 69-58. The Roadrunners were down seven before using an 18-4 run to seize control of the quarter-final matchup as they never trailed from that point on.

The trio of 6-1 Bella Graves, 5-10 Skyler Lubben and 6-1 Saige Parfitt proved to be too much for the Eagles as they scored 27, 20 and 15 points, respectively. Olivia Sidhu countered with 23 for M.E.I. while Lola Reimer added 19.

#3 South Kamloops Titans 70 #11 R.A. McMath Wildcats 33

While the R.A. McMath Wildcats may have had a second straight upset on their minds, the South Kamloops Titans were having none of that. The duo of Feron Wallace (23 points) and Lucy Marchese (21) combined for 44 points. Kiana Kaczur added 13 in the victory.

The Titans were up 11 at the half before blowing the game open in the third as they held the Wildcats to 10 points while exploding for 28 points of their own to put the game out of reach. McMath was led by Tiana Maedel’s 22 points.

#2 St. Michaels University School Blue Jags 68 #10 W.L. Seaton Sonics 32

The St. Michaels University School Blue Jags punched their ticket to the final four with a dominant defensive effort, holding the W.L. Seaton Sonics to 14 first-half points in a 68-32 win.

Charlie Anderson and Alex Motherwell scored 15 points apiece in the victory while Aleeya Ouch had 11 for the Sonics.

#1 Brookswood Bobcats 74 # 8 College Heights Cougars 36

Jordyn Nohr scored 21 of her 25 points in the first half as the Brookswood Bobcats advanced to the semi-final round with a convincing 74-36 win over the College Heights Cougars.

As a team, Brookswood was good on nine three-point attempts with both Bryn Symons (13 points) and Emma Lehnhoff (9 points) draining three apiece. Summer Toor scored 10 to lead the Cougars.
