Brentwood College set to face King George in 2A Boys final

The top overall seed Brentwood College will face off against the No. 2 King George Dragons to decide the BC School Sports 2A Boys Basketball Provincial Tournament title. The game tips off at 3:15pm.

The King George Dragons are back in the championship game. The Vancouver school will be making their third appearance in the BC School Sports 2A Boys Basketball Provincial Tournament in the past five seasons thanks to an impressive 74-48 win over Nanaimo’s John Barsby Bulldogs.

The Dragons’ Darko Karac scored 10 of his 22 points in the first quarter as King George led wire-to-wire over the sixth seed from Nanaimo. As well as leading his team in scoring, Karac had 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals for the No. 2 seed.

Dionycius Bakare – King George’s 6-5 Grade 10 forward – finished with a dozen points, 13 rebounds, 5 steals and a blocked shot and Rishin Uppal chipped in 19 points.

Jonny Durkan and Cohen Cadieux each scored 13 for the Bulldogs while Parker Moscrip had a dozen points and 14 rebounds.

Brentwood College 87 Westsyde 47

After pulling off a pair of upset wins in their first two games, the defending champion Westsyde Whundas could not overcome a slow start in their semi-final game. The No. 12 seed managed just 21 first-half points – or one less than No. 1 Brentwood College scored in the first quarter – in an 87-47 wire-to-wire win for the Mill Bay school.

Brentwood College shot nearly 62 pe cent in the first half as they built a 50-21 lead. Dylan Gage led his team with 22 points. He also had 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Milan Pasquale chipped in with 19 points and 6 steals and Jayden Lust scored 14 and had 4 steals. As a team, Brentwood College finished with 22 steals.

Caleb Gremaud led Westsyde with 19 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals.
