All-Surrey final between Semiahmoo and Fleetwood Park to decide Boys 4A Tournament

It will be an all-Surrey battle for the BC Schools 4A Boys Basketball Provincial Tournament title on Saturday night as Fraser South rivals Semiahmoo Thunderbirds take on the Fleetwood Park Dragons. The Dragons entered the tournament as the No. 6 seed and have now knocked off the No. 3 and No. 2 seeds in successive games. Up next will be the No. 1 Thunderbirds as the two teams take the court on Saturday night at 8:00pm.

Semiahmoo 96 Kelowna 68

A 34-point first quarter set the tone early as the top-seed Semiahmoo Thunderbirds advanced to the championship game for a second straight season. The Thunderbirds were dominant from start to finish in an impressive 96-68 win over the No. 5 Kelowna Owls.

Four Thunderbird players reached double figures – Cole Bekkering led the way with 24, Marcus Flores scored 20, Torian Lee had 19 and Andre Juco chipped in 11 – as Semiahmoo continues to dominate the competition, with their 28-point win their smallest margin of victory in the three games so far.

Flores also hauled down 14 rebounds while Semiahmoo finished with 19 assists – Juco had 5 and Lee had 4 – on their 41 field goals.

Nash Semeniuk paced the Owls attack with 28 points.

Fleetwood Park 73 Oak Bay 67

The Fleetwood Park Dragons pulled off their second-straight upset win as they prevailed 73-67 over the No. 2 Oak Bay Bays. The No. Dragons trailed by 8 points in the first quarter before taking the lead for good in period number two.

Fleetwood Park’s Aaron Uppal and Izaec Oppal had matching 24-point games to lead their team with Oppal connecting on 7 of his 11 attempts from beyond the arc. Eesher Sarai finished with a double-double as he scored 13 points and gathered 12 rebounds.

Oak Bay held a decisive edge on the boards, 49-31, including 23 offensive rebounds, but could not capitalize on their second-chance points. Griffin Arnatt led the Bays with 20 points and 17 rebounds.
