3A DRAW SEES TOP FOUR SEEDS ADVANCE TO SEMI-FINALS

The BC High School 3A Boys Basketball Tournament was the lone one among the four tiers to see all four top seeds advance to the semi-final round.

The final four pits No. 1 Duchess Park against No. 4 Sir Charles Tupper at 3:30 p.m. while at 5:15 p.m. No. 2 Vernon faces No. 3 G.W. Graham. Vernon won silver at the 2019 Tournament while Duchess Park took bronze.

Duchess Park is the lone team among them to have won a provincial basketball title taking the 4A crown in 1980 and the 2A title in 2006.

Tupper won silver in 2015 and have back-to-back fifth-place finishes in both 2018 and 2019 and G.W. Graham was seventh last year, a best-ever finish for the Chilliwack school. The Grizzlies do have a pair of bronze medals at the 2A level.

Duchess Park Condors 84 Pitt Meadows Marauders 68

A tight game after one quarter, the top-ranked Duchess Park Condors soared in the second and third periods, outscoring No. 9 Pitt Meadows 52-30 over that span in a 84-68 win. Logan Schlick scored 28 points for Duchess Park. Iman Ostavari led the Marauders with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Sir Charles Tupper Tigers 64 St. Patrick Celtics 60

The closest of the four 3A quarter-finals was the four-five matchup with the No. 4 Sir Charles Tupper Tigers leading the whole way of a narrow 64-60 victory over No. 5 St. Patrick Celtics. The Tigers used a balanced attack with five players scoring between eight and 14 points. Luke Tobias was the high man for Tupper. Daniel Marcelo scored 16 to lead the Celtics.

G.W. Graham Grizzlies 85 Magee Lions 77

Cairo Almarez had 28 points (including six three-pointers) and Clay Kurtz scored 24 as the No. 3 Grizzlies held off the No. 11 Magee Lions 85-77. Aaron Ungprasert had 18 for the Lions while Rourke MacDonald had 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Vernon Panthers 70 St. Thomas More Collegiate Knights 43

The Vernon Panthers held the St. Thomas More Collegiate Knights to 21.4 per cent shooting from the field in a 70-43 victory. Isaiah Ondrik had 20 points and 15 rebounds for the No. 2 Panthers while Gabe Nacario had a dozen points for the No. 7 Knights.
