DAY 1 RECAP: JUNIOR BOYS START WITH A BANG

Township of Langley, BC (February 25, 2017) The 2017 Telus Junior Boys Provincial Basketball Invitational Tournament kicked off on Saturday, February 25, 2017. The tournament featured 32 teams, playing 32 games over the course of 12 hours.

Teams featuring students between Grades 8-10 came from as far north as Prince George and Prince Rupert, as far West as Victoria and Nanaimo and as close as R.E Mountain which shares a parking lot with the Langley Events Centre.

It only took the first game before there was an upset. Number 26-ranked Pitt Meadows handed Number 7 Handsworth an early loss. Number 23, Fleetwood Park ran the table on number 10, Westsyde. Meanwhile, a few hours later, Number 6, Terry Fox was shocked by Number 27, Magee. The biggest shock of the day was Number-1 ranked Lord Tweesdmuir being downed by Number 16, Okanagan Mission.

Day two of the 48th annual event will feature 16-games on Sunday including the final eight of the winner’s bracket. #16 Okanagan Mission vs #8 Burnaby South, #4 West Vancouver vs #5 R.E. Mountain, #2 Sir Charles Tupper vs #26 Pitt Meadows and #3 St. George’s School vs #11 North Delta.

The Championship game will take place on Tuesday, February 28th at 6:00pm on the South Court.
