DAY 4 RECAP: SOUTH BURNABY WINS PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Township of Langley, BC (February 28, 2017) It was Championship Tuesday at the 2017 Telus Junior Boys Provincial Basketball Invitational Tournament

The fourth and final day saw #2 Sir Charles Tupper taking on #8 Burnaby South in the 48th annual Junior Boys Provincial Championship.

Sir Charles Tupper was controlling the ball in the first quarter and held a 14-11 lead after the first eight minutes. Momentum shifted in the second. Burnaby South went on a run and took the lead 30-24 at the half. In the third quarter both teams let their offense ride as both sides scored 14 points. The third ended with Burnaby South leading 44-38. In the fourth and final frame the teams went back and forth until Burnaby South went on a 10-0 run and put the game out of reach. The final score was 58-46.

 “We lost in the Grade 9 finals last year which left a pour taste in our mouth and we played Tupper in the Grade 8 provincial Final and had the same result,” said Burnaby South Head Coach Cody Cormack. “We played a great team with a great coach and we feel fantastic, this was the end goal at the start of the season and I am so proud of these guys.”

The 48th annual Championship game was seen in front of a sold-out crowd inside the Langley Events Centre.

North Delta finished the tournament in third place while West Vancouver finished in fourth.
